This is an excellent opportunity for a Primary Care Physician (MD or DO) in Southeast Alaska at the Wrangell Medical Center. You will have the ability to practice “whole family medicine” and treat an underserved patient population in a new modern hospital.
Summary and highlights:
- Primary duties will include routine and general Primary care, “cradle to grave”
- Urgent/emergent care and Hospitalist experience required
- Minimum 2 years of experience
- 4-day work week: 3 days clinic/1 day hospital
- Call: 9 – 10 days average per month
- Temporary housing for 6 months
- Easy work load averaging just 16 per day

About the area:
Wrangell is located on the northwest tip of Wrangell Island, 155 miles south of Juneauand 89 miles northwest of Ketchikan. The picturesque harbor town is in the Inside Passage is known for its Tlingit culture, wildlife viewing, and exploration on the beautiful Stikine River. Wrangell is accessible by plane or ferry. Seattle, WA is a 3.5-hour flight from Wrangell.
Wrangell Island has over 100 miles of forest roads that offer mountain bikers hikers, RVers and other explores access to remote lakes, rivers, campsites, trials and scenic overlooks.
The downtown district is within walking distance of the waterfront, providing easy access to businesses and services. Wrangell’s 2,300 residents have access to a full complement of retail services, including grocery stores, hardware and building supply stores, clothing and gift shops, restaurants, modern banking facilities, florist and much more.
A variety of excursions can get you up close to glaciers, black and brown bears, eagles, sea lions, harbor seals, whales, salmon and halibut. Halibut and all five species of salmon and steelhead trout are available for fishing. Shrimp and crab are abundant in the waters around Wrangell.
Recreational offerings include a skating rink, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor shooting range, trails, baseball fields, archer range, 9-hole golf course and year-round recreational programs for both children and adults.
In February 2020 Wrangell opened it’s beautiful, modern and spacious 45,000 square foot Medical Center.
The new hospital has 14 long-term care beds and 8 short-term care beds. It also houses a pharmacy, radiology, 24-hour lab, Physical Therapy and primary care offices. The Medical Clinic is connected to the new hospital.
